Dans ce livre, Adam Kryszeń propose une reconstitution des relations géographiques des centres politiques et religieux majeurs de la région centrale du pays hittite, relations géographiques qui se sont développées en Asie Centrale Mineure à partir c. XVIIe s. au début du XIIe s. av. n.e. En dépit de plus d’un siècle de travail pour mettre de l’ordre dans notre connaissance de la géographie d’Anatolie centrale hittite, il reste encore des problèmes fondamentaux qui attendent toujours d’être résolus. L’investigation est essentiellement orientée d’un point de vue philologique, car elle ne prétend pas donner des identifications précises qui pourraient permettre de situer sur une carte les villes hittites et les montagnes. Au lieu de soumettre une nouvelle fois des propositions de localisations précises, l’étude analyse plutôt les preuves écrites afin de re-créer une géographie relative de la région, d’après un système de relations géographiques entre les lieux examinés. La méthode d’investigation employée dans l’étude utilise toutes les données disponibles sur les toponymes concernés et les analyse à partir d’une perspective géographique stricte qui permet une meilleure connaissance du matériel.

This book provides a groundbreaking reassessment of the prehistory of Homeric epic. It argues that in the Early Iron Age bilingual poets transmitted to the Greeks a set of narrative traditions closely related to the one found at Bronze-Age Hattusa, the Hittite capital. Key drivers for Near Eastern influence on the developing Homeric tradition were the shared practices of supralocal festivals and venerating divinized ancestors, and a shared interest in creating narratives about a legendary past using a few specific storylines: theogonies, genealogies connecting local polities, long-distance travel, destruction of a famous city because it refuses to release captives, and trying to overcome death when confronted with the loss of a dear companion. Professor Bachvarova concludes by providing a fresh explanation of the origins and significance of the Greco-Anatolian legend of Troy, thereby offering a new solution to the long-debated question of the historicity of the Trojan War.
